TUITION
Starting salmon fishing is a confusing business.
If you are a beginner you may already know anglers who are kind and well meaning to a novice and very enthusiastic that you should get involved. They happily offer dogmatic and conflicting advice, tell you about experiences which you can not begin to imagine, use words and expressions that means nothing - and then they wonder why you look baffled. One of them offers to take you fishing, loses patience at the mess you get into and then leaves you alone while they go off and fish by themselves.
This is many peoples rather off-putting introduction to fishing.
Bill is happy to start at square one, does not expect you to ‘get it right' with just a few minutes instruction and progresses at your pace.
Thirty years of teaching has given him the experience and ability to pass on skills and enthusiam while incorporating the essentials of the sport.
You will be taught about fishing tackle, knots, flies and/or spinners, different forms of casting depending on conditions and your ability, reading the water, how to play and land a fish, etiquette, conservation, safety…. in fact, what you will need to know to give you the confidence to go fishing by yourself and enjoy catching fish.
All this, while actually fishing and to fitting in with your requirements and arrangements.

SALMON FISHING COURSES 2010
Up until 2009 we were averaging eight salmon landed for each course - but 2009 was a difficult year across Scotland - and some of us still landed a few fish! This is very encouraging as almost two days are spent under group instruction, learning spey casting etc and walking the beat and most course members are new to salmon fishing. You are more than in with a chance - and it might be big!
Beginners
Bill runs one beginners salmon fishing course a year. It is in the Autumn and on the Aberdeenshire Don. Numbers are limited to four anglers and it is designed to be as unlike a 'course' and as much like a friendly small group as possible. The cost for a full six days salmon fishing and tuition on two different beats is £395 + accommodation at the excellent Kildrummy Inn. You will be learning and fishing and expecting to catch fish! Please ask for written details and photos. Phone Bill on 01332 824652 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

…And for the rusty or recently started
This again is a full six days but with more time on two different beats on the Aberdeenshire Don. It will benefit people with limited experience or those picking up a rod after some years. The numbers are limited to four rods to ensure a friendly, personal atmosphere and there will be a continuous strong instruction element while allowing you plenty of time to yourself – with reassuring help and advice always on hand. The cost for the six days salmon fishing and tuition on two beats is £395 + accommodation at the excellent Kildrummy Inn. Please ask for written details and photos. **Would you like a tailor made course in 2010 for you or your group along the lines of either of the above? Please contact Bill to discuss your requirements.**
(There is a story of the instructor of a course who set all his pupils off practising casting and decided there was time to pop into the village for two minutes to post a letter. Except that he met people who wanted a word and one thing led to another dram - but when he remembered about the course and got back two hours later, there they were - sore armed and determined, but still casting away….)
